Becoming a Labor Doula is an opportunity to enhance and nurture your skills in caring for expecting families. Labor Doulas provide education, information and emotional support from time they are hired through the early postpartum period.
We provide Labor Doula training through DoulaBuilders. DoulaBuilders was conceptualized and began by Jamie Bodily. There are many training organizations to choose from and Jamie had taken many trainings but still felt like the trainings were missing important component of the doula’s role. One of the challenges that newer doulas faced was not feeling prepared for prenatal visits. Prenatal visits are a core part of the work doulas do. In prenatal visits, doulas help clients prepare for their labor and birth experience. DoulaBuilders focuses on how to help clients identify goals and desires for their birth, building relationships with the expectant family and tools to help educate and inspire clients as they prepare.
DoulaBuilders trainings are three days in length. During those three days, you will have the opportunity to explore your goals, your values and your experiences in becoming a doula. You will learn about setting appropriate boundaries with clients as well as creating and maintaining professional relationships. You will learn how to support clients through a variety of birth scenarios. You will learn how to offer emotional support, address challenging situations and how to build relationships with your client’s medical team.
